Many schemes have been devised to steal freedom and property. The most dangerous are the ones that make it sound good and beneficial, like socialism. It could hardly be more obvious that excessive control or taxation diminishes productivity and progress. Yet sweet sounding Marxist theories have caused incalculable misery and death. For example, “The catastrophe of Communism included the creation of a totalitarian state; the reintroduction of slave labor on an epic scale; and politically induced famines and government-created poverty of unprecedented proportions; political purges and mass executions resulting in the deaths of an estimated 100 million people.” (Unholy Alliance, David Horowitz, 55) The socialism practiced by the United Soviet Socialist Republic (communist Russia) and the socialism of universal health care are founded on the same Marxist principle: Trick people out of their capital and freedom by promising them more, while giving greater power and control to the government. Following this principle always leads to the same place. Socialism wears a beguiling mask which hides it’s inherent deprivation, tyranny, and death.

Rummel, ‘Death by Government.’ A wealth of information is provided at his website … Those horrors were simply the end result of long evolution of ideas leading to consolidation of power in central government in the quest for ‘social justice’ … First, they make a false distinction between fascism, communism and socialism but more importantly, they sympathize with the socioeconomic goals of communism and socialism ... they've increasingly called for quasi-ownership through various forms of government regulation, oversight, taxation and subsidies. After all, if someone has the power to tell you how you may use your property, it's tantamount to his owing it. Continuing to advocate socialism, radical environmentalism, promiscuity, abortion, and spineless retreat will get the same results. Millions more will die.

Why do so many that seem to be so smart persist in promoting things that are fatally flawed and destructive? Perhaps they are deceived by the constant repetition of ideological propaganda. Or perhaps they maintain a naïve hope of establishing a utopian society on the basis of state-structured amorality. Or perhaps their desire for power and influence smothers their goodness and reason. Or perhaps they are just too proud to change? Could it be that they are intentionally evil? Let’s hope not.
