War

Beware of those who corrupt war reports for political gain. Their deception encourages enemies of freedom, resulting in increased death. Their treason can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

“Determined to keep Americans drowning in debt, Obama proposes to accelerate federal spending $3.8 trillion in 2013 to $5.8 trillion in 2022, a whopping increase of 53 percent. By spending more than $45 trillion in the next 10 years … It has become obvious that America faces increasing nuclear threats from hostile regimes like Iran and North Korea … This week, Iranian President Ahmadinejad plans a major announcement for Iran’s advancement in its atomic program, a move to show how increased U.N. sanctions have failed to halt Iran’s technical progress … Our first line of defense against short and intermediate-range airborne attacks is the Standard Missile 3 (SM-3), which can intercept enemy missiles while in flight. Their proven track record is why they are also essential to the NATO effort in Europe to defend against missiles from hostile nations. Yet, despite the SM-3’s impressive performance history and expanding capabilities that will ultimately protect our homeland from a long-range missile attack, President Obama has all but turned his back on the missile. In his newly released budget, the President cuts funding for the newest evolution of SM-3 (known as IB), which will result in 52 percent fewer missiles while commanders in theater have consistently complained about shortages.” (2/16/2012)

“‘Americans and Israelis believe -- we know deep in our bones -- that if the Islamic Republic of Iran acquired a nuclear weapons capability, it will be an existential threat to Israel, to America, and to world civilization itself ... A threat to Israel is a threat to America ... Stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capability must be a top priority of the United States of America. Any president, Republican or Democrat, who allows such a thing to occur on his watch would be acting in a way that is profoundly against the national security interests of the United States and the security interests of our friends in Israel’ … The greatest mistake -- ultimately a suicidal one -- that good non-Jews make is to dismiss Jew-hatred (known by the euphemism of ‘anti-Semitism’) as the Jews' problem. Had the Western world not dismissed Adolf Hitler and Nazism as primarily a Jewish problem, 50 million non-Jews would not have been killed between 1939 and 1945. Jew-haters, like the above mentioned Islamist successors to the Nazis, hate all that is and all who are decent and good. We turn our attention from Iran's nuclear ambitions at our great peril. Chris Christie knows this. Ron Paul does not.” (2/15/2012)

“Everyone wants to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, but not everyone is willing to do what it takes to bring that about … In 1936, everyone wanted to stop the German army coming into the de-militarized Rhineland, but no one was willing to use force to prevent it. Hitler sensed this weak resolve in the Americans and the British … Hitler could smell fear … Now, consider this: Iran has been at war with the U.S. for more than thirty years … The Iranians are also at war with Israel. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has publicly said he can foresee a world without the U.S. and Israel. He says Israel should be ‘wiped off the map,’ that the Jewish state is but a ‘two-bomb country.’ What kind of bombs would those be? U.S. policy makers are desperate, it seems, to dissuade Israel from striking Iran … As worrisome as an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities might be, Iran with a nuclear weapon is infinitely more dangerous. British diplomacy in the interwar years between 1919 and 1939 was marked by high intelligence, a desire for fair play, and a fundamental decency. All of those qualities were abused and betrayed by a single-minded evil man, Adolf Hitler. Israel reminds us that when a nation’s very survival is on the line, that nation will do whatever it must do to meet its sworn enemy … Today, surrounded by mortal enemies, with their backs to the wall, Israelis are told to take more ‘risks for peace’ by a US. administration that is outraged by the sight of too many Jews in Jerusalem. If we wait until the Iranians have sunk their nuclear weapons deep into hardened bunkers it will be too late. The Obama administration will not act in time. Later, will be too late. Israel: Don’t wait; hit the Iranian nuclear facilities now.” (2/7/2012)

“The central issue for Israel and the United States is this: can Iran be stopped by a pre-emptive attack, or must we wait until it launches -- or threatens to launch -- a nuclear missile at Israel, or explodes -- or threatens to explode – ‘suitcase bombs’ in U.S. cities … Ettinger believes the reluctance to engage in a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities ‘is harmful, ignores precedents, plays into Iran's hands and threatens Israel's existence’ because it conveys ‘hesitancy, skepticism and fatalism, aiming to preclude pre-emption and assuming that Israel can co-exist with a nuclear-armed Iran,’ which of course it cannot, anymore that the United States could have co-existed with Cuba when the Soviet Union placed nuclear missiles there during the Kennedy administration … Now Israel and the U.S. are faced with another choice: a pre-emptive strike that would setback, or destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities, or wait and see what might happen. Does anyone -- other than Ron Paul -- deny the disaster that might occur if Iran had a nuclear device and the capability to deliver it against targets in Israel and America? As the joke goes, ‘denial is not just a river in Egypt.’" (2/2/2012)

“European and American perfidy in dealing with Iran's nuclear weapons program apparently has no end … There is nothing new in this game of fake sanctions. And what it shows more than anything is that the Europeans and the Americans are more concerned with pressuring Israel not to attack Iran's nuclear installations than they are in preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power … Today's principal form of Jew-hatred is anti- Zionism. Anti-Zionism is similar to previous dominant forms of Jew hatred such as Christian anti-Judaism, xenophobic and racist anti- Semitism, and Communist anti-Jewish cosmopolitanism in the sense that it takes dominant, popular social trends and turns them against the Jews … to support Israel and Zionism involves accepting that Jews have inherent rights … that you embrace and defend the notion that the Jews have the right to their own interests … to realize that since Jewish survival is dependent on Jewish power, and anti-Zionists reject the right of Jews to have power, that anti-Zionists seek to bring about a situation where Jewish survival is imperiled.” (1/28/2012)

“If Gutman had studied history, he would know that Muslim hatred of Jews predates by many centuries Israel's 1948 rebirth as a Jewish state … But it is not only Jews who are being singled out for verbal abuse and physical attacks. In last month's Smithsonian magazine, there was a revealing story by Joshua Hammer about the stepped-up attacks by Egyptian Muslims against Coptic Christians, who trace their lineage to the time of Christ. In fact, notes Hammer, attacks against Coptic churches and individual Christians have increased since Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was deposed. Radical Muslims have little regard for other religious viewpoints … No intelligent person who has observed the media attacks against Israel (not to mention the many wars, countless terrorist incidents and continuing threats directed at Israel's destruction) can credibly conclude that Israel's enemies are merely hyperbolic ... [yet] there are people who continue to advance the fiction that only Israel stands in the way of peace. It's past time to stop taking potshots at Israel and start directing "fire" at the prime suspects behind continuing war and turmoil in the region.” (12/8/11)

“Plainly put, we live in a dangerous world, and we need to do everything possible to remain safe … But the fact that our efforts to shield ourselves from catastrophic attack are upsetting Moscow pales next to the folly of remaining needlessly vulnerable. So even as we work to keep rogue states from obtaining the ultimate weapon, we can’t neglect the need to protect ourselves in a worst-case scenario. Indeed, a missile shield could do much to prevent the Irans and North Koreas of the world from acquiring such weapons. After all, why go to the trouble and expense of building them if you know they’re unlikely to succeed? It wouldn’t be practical. So missile defense, besides bolstering our security considerably, can help keep the world from becoming a more volatile place … There’s no excuse to delay or shortchange our ability to defend ourselves as fully as possible. We need an immediate and comprehensive missile defense. With it, we can deprive our enemies of a powerful weapon. What are we waiting for?” (12/1/11)

“If Israel's existence were threatened, as it regularly is, France would surely not be the only country the world could depend on to stand idly by. The French would doubtless be joined by the rest of the West, as in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973 ... the world was not about to intervene. At least not on Israel's side ... Inescapable conclusion: The only people who'll go to war to defend Israel are the Israelis. Maybe that's why they've emerged victorious from every threat (so far). They've learned to depend on themselves. Or should have by now. It's also why they're considering a strike against the existential threat posed to their state by Iran's fast-developing nuclear program. The mullahs' dream of a nuke of their own becomes closer to reality with every turn of those centrifuges in the vicinity of Teheran. The Iranians have just about completed dispersing and hardening the sites of their nuclear facilities … Soon enough it will be too late to end it. Once the fanatics in Teheran have a nuclear weapon and the means to deliver it, does anyone think they will hesitate to use it against Israel, which they're fond of referring to as a ‘one-bomb state’? Time grows short. It's passing as quickly as Iran's centrifuges are whirling.”  (11/17/11)

“In other words, in colluding with the UN's anti-Israel commission, whose mandate from the UN Human Rights Council was to explain how Israel broke international law by acting to defend its citizens from Hamas's illegal, indiscriminate missile assault, B'Tselem's goal was to undermine Israel's ability to defend itself. B'Tselem wished to use the UN commission to foment an international witch-hunt against the Jewish state that would exact a prohibitive price for defending the country. Israel's democratically elected government would react to the international onslaught by ignoring the needs of the Israeli public and opting not to defend the country again. Obviously, if Israel ceases to defend itself, in light of its enemies' dedication to its destruction, it will cease to exist … It is hard to know what is driving these men to act as they do. But it is high time that they exercise some independent judgment and rethink their support for the radical left's foreign funded, judicially enabled assault on Israeli democracy.” (11/15/11)

“What flummoxed Chamberlain, and modern-day apologists for evil, is their refusal to accept that dictators do not live by Western standards or think as we do … When Iran lies, the State Department believes their lies; when Iran tells the truth, say, about wishing to wipe Israel off the map, State doesn't believe them … Breaking news: Islamists lie! What about the ‘land for peace’ formula that has been the accepted doctrine of so many U.S. administrations? Does Landau think that formula is still valid? Not surprisingly, he does not, nor does he believe it ever was a workable formula. ‘The root cause of the conflict in the region,’ he says, ‘is the total refusal by Palestinians and Arab states to accept a Jewish state of any size’ … ‘Islamism is the third totalitarian ideology following fascism and communism.’ The question now is will the rest of the world develop a strategy for destroying (not containing, because it will not be contained) Islamism as it did fascism and communism? The IAEA report requires even more urgency in pursuit of this objective, but remarks in Cannes by Sarkozy and Obama are not a reason for optimism that they understand what will be necessary to confront and defeat this third totalitarian ideology.” (11/10/11)

“The failure of Barack Obama to negotiate an acceptable agreement to leave enough troops in Iraq to secure the peace and prevent an Iranian takeover is a diplomatic and strategic failure of major proportion. Now led by the Department of Justice, the Administration is compounding the diplomatic disaster by pretending radical Islam is no longer a threat worth mentioning … ‘I think it's an absolute disaster,’ said Gen. Keane. We won the war in Iraq, and we're now losing the peace’ … For all the mistakes and the enormous cost of the Iraq war, it was from the beginning a classic case of America being willing to fight against evil with the hope of allowing good to one day prevail. Tragically, we have a President and an Administration that is either unwilling or unable to even distinguish between good and evil, much less muster the courage to stand up for righteousness.” (10/25/11)

“The Obama doctrine for intervention would appear then to be: Intervene only where American interests are in no way implicated. “The Obama administration's response to Iran's plan to bring its 32-year-old war against the United States to the US capital is the newest confirmation that President Barack Obama has no intention in taking action to remove or diminish the threat Iran poses to the US, its allies and interests … Over the weekend, the US announced that its troops would be fully removed from Iraq in January. Obama has insisted on withdrawing his surge troops from Afghanistan despite the Taliban resurgence in the country … As nuclear proliferation scholar Avner Cohen explained in an interview with The Jerusalem Post earlier this month, the administration is committed to a policy of containing a nuclear-armed Iran rather than preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons … A regime that sent 100,000 of its children to their deaths during the Iran-Iraq War by dispatching them to the battlefields as human mine sweepers is not a regime that can be contained through mutual assured destruction as the Soviets were … Iran's war against the US is a war that only Iran is fighting. And if something doesn't change very quickly, it is clear that since Iran is the only side fighting the war, Iran is the only side that will win the war.” (10/24/11)

“Clearly, the US is also being betrayed by the new [Egyptian] regime. If the Muslim Brotherhood controls the next Egyptian government, Egypt will join Lebanon and Turkey as the newest member of the growing club of nations ruled by Islamic radicals. This week, Lebanon’s Hezbollah-appointed Prime Minister Najib Mikati finally formed his Hezbollah- controlled government. Hezbollah has now officially swallowed Lebanon. The regional and indeed global repercussions of the development are simply mind-boggling … This week, the Turks went to the polls and re-elected Prime Minister Recip Erdogan and his radical Islamic AKP party to lead the country for a third term … Both nuclear-armed Pakistan and Yemen are quickly approaching the day when they will be led by al Qaida or its affiliates … Iran also has enriched 56.7 kilos of uranium to the 20% level, from which it is a relatively simple matter to increase enrichment levels to the 90% needed to make a nuclear bomb … The launch indicates that Iran is acquiring greater prowess in developing intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities. Such capabilities along with Iran’s nuclear program and global ambitions constitute a clear and present danger to Europe and the US … At this point, it is inarguable that the policy of sanctioning Iran favored by the US and Europe has failed … to significantly slow Iran’s progress towards the atom bomb. Obviously, the only possible way to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons at this late hour is to attack its nuclear installations … Obama’s sole policy for dealing with the nuclear weapons-seeking and openly genocidal Iranian regime is appeasement … Obama refuses to even state openly that he would use force to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. What this means is that – as was the case in May 1967, when the combined Arab armies gathered with the express purpose of wiping the Jewish state off the map – today again, Israel is alone at its hour of greatest peril.” (6/18/11)

“The Obama administration is so desperate to appease the Islamic savages and cut a peace deal with them that U.S. negotiators no longer require preconditions of Taliban fighters we negotiate with—like that they halt the killing of innocent civilians and our troops or break with al-Qaeda, the Telegraph of London reported … U.S. negotiators and their British counterparts aren’t even requiring that the Taliban embrace the Afghan constitution that our troops and many Afghans paid for with blood. Worse yet, they are aiming to turn control of the county at least partly over to the Taliban in a ‘shared power’ deal, essentially throwing the Afghan people to the wolves.

Meanwhile our troops take bullets enforcing the Afghan constitution and continue to die fighting for what the Obama administration is giving away at the negotiating table … If the American public got the full story on this, they’d be outraged … The Taliban has been laughing since Secretary of State Hillary Clinton first proposed negotiating with the ‘moderate’ members of the Taliban in 2009. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid called this a ‘lunatic idea,’ insisting that there were no moderate Taliban … Still Obama and Cameron plow ahead, pushing for what the British papers call a ‘political solution.’ By that they mean one that will make Obama look great … to America’s enemies.” (6/7/11)

“Note how Obama has undermined Israel's negotiating position. He is demanding that Israel go into peace talks having already forfeited its claim to the territory won in the '67 war -- its only bargaining chip. Remember: That '67 line runs right through Jerusalem. Thus the starting point of negotiations would be that the Western Wall and even Jerusalem's Jewish Quarter are Palestinian -- alien territory for which Israel must now bargain. The very idea that Judaism's holiest shrine is alien or that Jerusalem's Jewish Quarter is rightfully or historically or demographically Arab is an absurdity … Obama also moved the goal posts on the so-called right of return. Flooding Israel with millions of Arabs would destroy the world's only Jewish state … Obama's response to this relentless Palestinian intransigence? To reward it -- by abandoning the Bush assurances, legitimizing the ‘67 borders and refusing to reaffirm America's rejection of the right of return. The only remaining question is whether this perverse and ultimately self-defeating policy is born of genuine antipathy toward Israel or of the arrogance of a blundering amateur who refuses to see that he is undermining not just peace but the very possibility of negotiations.” (5/29/11)

“When President Obama called yesterday for Israel to pull back to the borders that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War – lines Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called militarily ‘indefensible’ – top-rated nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage turned to the Bible for a glimpse of the Middle East's future. ‘Ezekiel is predictive of what's going to happen,’ Savage said as he read from the Hebrew scriptures on the air. ‘There will be a war’ … ‘In other words,’ Savage said, ‘if you believe in the Bible as the word of God, God is saying that the day will come that God will show himself, when all of these despicable nations that Obama is in love with will rise up against the Jewish people … He says he shall be known by the war he brings down upon those who attack the Jewish people,’ Savage said. ‘That is how God will speak to them.’ He then read Ezekiel 39:12, which says: ‘And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying them, that they may cleanse the land.’ ‘So he predicts,’ Savage said, referring to the prophet Ezekiel, ‘that there will be so many corpses coming at Israel, it will take seven months to bury the corpses of those who rise up against Israel.’" (5/21/11)

“A return to the pre-1967 borders would have major implications for Israel’s people and its security, and would be a major step toward the oft-repeated Palestinian goal of pushing the Jewish state entirely into the sea. This would require the abandonment of Judea and Samaria, the Golan Heights, the Sinai Peninsula, and East Jerusalem (including, most likely, the Temple Mount itself) … Even more importantly, such a reduction of Israeli territory would eliminate the security buffer currently created by the Territories, thereby deeply threatening the Jewish state’s security. In an era when Arab fighters are employing rockets (both homemade and imported) and other standoff weaponry, moving the border of an unregulated Palestinian state up to the border of Israel would not only endanger Israeli citizens living in those border areas, but would also put major coastal cities like Tel Aviv, which is a mere eleven miles (18 km) from what would be Palestinian land, well within range of Katyusha rockets. In other words, pulling back altogether to the pre-1967 borders would leave Israel’s ability to protect and defend itself crippled … Again, the ignorance of, or refusal to acknowledge, the fact that the refusal to accept Israel’s right to exist extends far beyond just Hamas is striking.” (5/20/11)

“In Colorado on Tuesday, Sarah Palin laid out principles of what may eventually turn into a Palin foreign policy doctrine. In a speech that honored military families whose children made the ultimate sacrifice, Palin said that  ‘we should only commit our forces when clear and vital American interests are at stake. Period.’ Then, Palin said that if America commits troops and ‘if we have to fight, we fight to win. To do that, we use overwhelming force. We only send our troops into war with the objective to defeat the enemy as quickly as possible. We do not stretch out our military with open-ended and ill-defined missions. Nation building is a nice idea in theory, but it is not the main purpose of our armed forces. We use our military to win wars” … Palin then said that ‘American soldiers must never be put under foreign command. We will fight side by side with our allies, but American soldiers must remain under the care and the command of American officers.’” (5/4/11)

“…The WikiLeaks documents clearly show ‘for years afterward, U.S. troops continued to find chemical weapons labs, encounter insurgent specialists in toxins and uncover weapons of mass destruction’ A September 2004 New York Times op-ed by the former head of Saddam’s nuclear research program supported this, as well. He wrote: ‘… he kept the country’s Atomic Energy Commission alive … [O]ur nuclear program could have been reinstituted at the snap of Saddam Hussein’s fingers’ … Of note too is a January 2004 revelation by Syrian journalist defector Nizar Nayuf. He reported there were three locations in Syria where Iraqi WMDs had been transported prior to the 2003 invasion and were being stored … Five years after Joe Wilson’s op-ed claimed no yellowcake was sold to Iraq … In July 2008, in an operation kept secret at the time, 37 military air cargo flights shipped more than 500 metric tons of yellowcake — found in Iraq — out of the country for further transport and remediation to Canada.” (1/5/11)

“Two weeks ago, Iran scored a massive victory. Jordan, the West's most stable and loyal ally in the Arab world began slouching towards the Iranian Gomorrah … the Jordanians recognized that the Obama administration was committed to appeasing Iran … the Obama administration did nothing after Ahmadinejad and his henchmen stole the presidential election. It did nothing as they repressed the tens of millions of Iranians who demonstrated against the election fraud. The Obama administration did nothing as Iran conducted repeated war games along the Straits of Hormuz, progressed in its nuclear program, deepened its military alliances with Turkey and Venezuela and escalated its proxy war against the US and its allies in Afghanistan ... As Washington stood idly by in the face of Iran's aggression, Jordan and the other US-allied Arab states watched as Obama harassed Israel, announced his plan to withdraw all US forces from Iraq next year, appointed a new ambassador to Syria and approved more military aid to the Iranian-controlled Lebanese army ... It is important to bear this in mind when one considers the reason that the campaign to delegitimize Israel is gaining momentum … they have no reason to defend Israel from its detractors. From their perspective, their interests are better served by either standing on the sidelines or turning on Israel …” (12/27/10)

“Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Hideki Tojo tried and failed. Mao Zedong, Nikita Khrushchev and Ho Chi Minh couldn't do it. But commander in chief Barack Obama may well succeed where others could not. If he has his way, he will demolish the finest force for good in the history of mankind -- the U.S. armed forces. And he wants to make it all happen before the end of the year … Sixty-seven percent of Marines and more than 57 percent of soldiers in U.S. Army combat units believe changing the law would hurt combat efficiency, unit cohesion, readiness and retention … Nearly 25 percent of those now serving -- and as many as 32 percent of Marines -- said they are likely to leave the service rather than be assigned to live with and serve beside active homosexuals … Gates …  observed, ‘They can't just up and leave.’ No, they can't. But when they come home, they can vote with their feet. Is wrecking the world's finest military the price we have to pay …” (12/2/10)

“This time around, however, Mr. Obama is not simply trying to socialize the economy, destroy the world's finest health care system or assault the Constitution. No, at the moment he has the national security in his crosshairs - and the negative implications could make those associated with his other, domestic policy campaigns pale by comparison … most Americans  have the good sense to think it advisable for the United States to maintain a viable deterrent … There will be plenty of time next year for the U.S. Senate to review, debate and make necessary improvements to the New START Treaty. And that is precisely what Barack Obama wants to preclude with his all-too-familiar pig-in-a-poke stratagem. The Senate must not fall for it again.” (12/2/10)

“Outrage is growing at the intersection of ideology and incompetence that is the jury's collapse in the trial of Ahmed Ghailani, declared acquitted in the murders of 224 innocents, including a dozen Americans. The outrage is growing as Americans learn more and more about how utterly avoidable this outrageous miscarriage of justice was … Eric Holder who repeatedly declared his confidence in this process should resign and the president should apologize to the nation and especially to the families of the victims whose killer now has been declared not guilty … perhaps the families of the victims of the massacre perpetrated by Ahmed Ghailani will receive some comfort that while the killer was acquitted of these murders, the manifest and shocking injustice of that result has curbed at least for a while the insanity of the American legal left, and especially its most prominent and powerful members, Barack Obama and Eric Holder.” (10/19/10)

“If the definition of insanity is repeating the same mistake over and over again, then U.S. policymakers over several administrations should be institutionalized and relegated to padded cells. The latest, but certainly not the last example of this craziness, is the pressure the Obama administration is exerting on Israel to stop building settlements in the West Bank … why should any future concessions by Israel be sufficient to cause you to make peace with the Jewish state, which you won't even acknowledge as a Jewish state? … It is not -- nor has it ever been -- what Israel does or doesn't do that threatens peace in the region. It is Israel's existence that riles the Palestinians and every Muslim state. Any negotiation that does not lead to the weakening of Israel on the road to its eventual annihilation is of no interest to the Palestinian leadership. Can anyone prove that statement wrong? … A lot must change before anything approaching ‘peace’ between Palestinians and Israelis occurs. Israel has changed and given enough. It is long past time for serious reciprocity from the Palestinian Authority. If none is forthcoming, Israel should keep building and agree to no new concessions.” (10/14/10)

“No such furor surrounds Afghanistan. Yet more Americans have been killed so far this year in Afghanistan than during the entire six years of fighting there from 2001 through 2006. U.S. combat fatalities in Afghanistan in just the first 19 months of the Obama administration exceeded U.S. combat fatalities in Afghanistan in eight years under George W. Bush. This depressing news warrants little commentary in the mainstream media but surely raises vital questions of national security … Does President Obama plan to win, or is he willing to concede the war with the Taliban? Does the media fear that depressing coverage of Afghanistan will damage this administration … Mexico is convulsed in a drug war far more violent than anything going on in Iraq. Nearly 30,000 people have been murdered in Mexico in the last three years since the Calderón government attempted to wrestle back control of large swaths of the country from vicious organized drug cartels. Some 200 Americans have been killed in Mexico since 2004. In some Mexican towns, mayors and entire city councils have either been murdered or fled, and the violence often spills over into U.S. border towns. Why the relative silence in our media? … Mexico is quickly devolving into a failed state. Yet few in the media seem willing to apprise Americans of what that means for the United States … Apparently our news media has decided that we do not, or should not, care about any of the three. Like it or not, that is about to change -- and very soon.” (10/14/10)

A COUNTRY for the Palestinians would be fine -- if. If the new country of Palestinians would agree not to wage war against Israel. If the Palestinians simply would acknowledge that Israel exists … Absolutely it's ridiculous. The current Netanyahu government says it will agree to a limited moratorium on more building in land the Palestinians want back if the Palestinians will acknowledge Israel's existence. The Palestinians have said, as they have said repeatedly in the past, no deal … The Palestinians need to disabuse themselves of the notion that 'what's mine is mine and what's yours' is negotiable ... On the contrary, they have a great deal to offer -- recognition of Israel, acts of kindness, pledges of peace: no acts of terror, no rocket attacks, no bombings of innocents, no conspiring for war again to rub Israel out.” (10/14/10)

“But the only country we can disarm is our own. The only countries we might be able to persuade to disarm are countries that intend no harm in the first place. Those countries that do intend to harm others-- and we know all too well that they exist-- would be delighted to have all their victims disarmed … In the real world, the question of whether nuclear disarmament is desirable or undesirable is utterly irrelevant because it is simply not possible, except in words-- and we would truly be fools to accept such words at the risk of our lives … Those countries with aggressive intentions towards other countries need only choose the time when they would put their knowledge of nuclear weapons to use, and have the world at their mercy … Why then is President Barack Obama pursuing an international nuclear disarmament agreement? It cannot be because he thinks it will work … His political base-- the young, the left and the thoughtless-- would be thrilled and energized … But what does it say about those who take his words literally, who accept those words as, in Thomas Hobbes' words, the money of fools?” (9/17/10)

“More to the point, while our armed forces take fire from enemies in the sands and mountains of the Middle East, they are also taking fire from a much more lethal source: their commander-in-chief. Yes, America’s military is at war with radical Islamists around the world and, more problematic, with their President at home. Barack Obama’s war with the U.S. military is one with several fronts: social engineering of the military culture at the expense of readiness and capability; dictating the rules of engagement (ROE) that hinder our troops’ ability to fight an enemy that doesn’t wear traditional military uniforms and hides behind women’s burqas while operating from schools and mosques; and, slashing the necessary funding for force modernization and sustainability. And finally, morale—successful military operations always come down to morale.” (9/8/10)

“In a speech earlier in the day to troops at Fort Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas, the president said all the effort and bloodshed in Iraq was not in vain. He then said that because of U.S. efforts in Iraq, ‘America is more secure.’ How can that be if, as then-senator Barack Obama claimed, the war was a mistake and the surge wouldn't work? Then-senator Joe Biden said the same thing. As House Minority Leader John Boehner noted ... congressional leaders who opposed the troop surge that led to advances in Iraq are now taking credit for it … For the president, the next page is Afghanistan ... but Afghanistan now has its own deadline for troop withdrawal. Our enemies know this and are simply biding their time. If a government is formed in Iraq that can withstand the pressures to return it to dictatorship and internal religious factionalism, it will be a victory for Iraqis and their American helpers. If it doesn't, then it will be a disaster … the larger issue of worldwide Muslim extremism and its aggressive attempts to undermine and then eradicate Western institutions and practices, such as freedom of religion and equal rights for women, remains a ‘combat operation.’ That ‘war’ will not always be fought with guns and bullets, but it must be fought with unswerving resolve.” (9/8/10)

“… I view President Obama’s policy toward the mortal threat Israel faces as Iran’s nuclear ambitions proceed unhindered toward a bomb … President Obama has wasted his first year in office ‘reaching out’ to the mullahs in Tehran. Even now, he absurdly says that the Iranian clerics and the United States have a ‘mutual interest’ in stopping the Taliban in Afghanistan. Just whom does he think is now aiding the Taliban? Can he really be so naive? … The world, including the UN bureaucrats, yawned as Israeli cities and farms came under this rocket attack. Tehran, it is widely known, is arming Hamas, just as it is supplying Hezbollah, the terrorist outfit that rules in Southern Lebanon … A year and a half into this administration, we see the utter failure of Obama foreign policy. He left our Eastern European allies--Poland, Hungary, the Czechs--in the lurch, yanking away an anti-missile defense program that would have protected them not only from Iranian missiles but also from Russian pressures.”  (8/26/10)

“Gentle Reader can just imagine the treasure trove of information -- I certainly can -- now available to this country's enemies in the estimated 92,000 classified documents that Wikileaks has just released … Nor is such a massive intelligence leak likely to encourage other countries to cooperate with us, lest their secrets be revealed by some Pfc with a connection to the World Wide Web. Who would trust the Americans after this … Or as Michael Mullen, the admiral who's now chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, pointed out: ‘Mr. Assange can say whatever he likes about the greater good he thinks he and his sources are doing, but the truth is they might already have on their hands the blood of some young soldier, or that of an Afghan family.’" (8/20/10)

“The US claims that pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into these Lebanese and Palestinian armies will enable them to become stabilizing forces in the region that will engender peace. “Obama is doing nothing less than warring against Israel … Now that Obama is in the White House, he is taking this Jew-hatred to a whole new level, bringing it to the international stage. In the book, I give the details of a little-noticed but pivotal Obama speech that former UN Ambassador John Bolton called ‘the most radical anti-Israel speech I can recall any President making’ … And now Obama’s relentless persecution of the Jews by way of an anti-Semitic approach to Israel has now reached a fever pitch with the lines he has fed to his willing stooge David Cameron … It will only get worse for the tiny Jewish state. And as I show in The Post-American Presidency, everyone who voted for Obama should have seen all this coming. The warnings were clear. They were ignored. The price will be high.” (8/7/10)

Herf elaborates: ‘In Europe, the Nazis presented their policy of ‘extermination’ and ‘annihilating’ the Jews as a desperate and justified act of self-defense. In their propaganda directed at the Middle East, they urged Arabs and Muslims to take matters into their own hands and ‘kill the Jews’ before the Jews were able to kill them. In both its European and Middle Eastern dimensions, the propaganda rested on the identical logic of paranoia and projection.’ And here we are, more than a half century later, with the current mufti of Jerusalem fabricating crimes against Muslims for which Jews deserve to be put to death. Meanwhile, Hamas leaders openly declare their intention to annihilate Israel and exterminate Jews — claiming they, too, are acting in self-defense, and calling themselves a ‘resistance’ movement. The number of people who appear to be buying these fictions is not insignificant. Few scholars have examined the links between Nazi and Islamist ideas in the 20th century. Few journalists are examining their venomous legacy in the present era.” (7/5/10)

“And buying time should be Israel's chief goal with respect to Washington today. Since taking office, Obama has repeatedly demonstrated that he will not reconsider his fundamentally hostile view of Israel. Obama's basic belief that Israel's strength and size are to blame for all the violence and radicalism in the Arab world is not subject to change regardless of how clearly and continuously events on the ground prove it wrong.” (7/5/10)

“The flotilla of boats intercepted by Israel this week flew the Turkish flag and was paid for by a ‘charity’ deeply implicated in Islamic terrorism. But the ‘captain’ of the fleet was none other than Barack Obama. From the day he took the oath of office eighteen arduous months ago, Obama has followed a Middle East foreign policy that’s been as hostile toward Israel as it’s been hospitable toward the Islamic world. Over those months Obama has seldom showed anger toward rogue Muslim governments—not toward the appalling human rights abuses of the genocidal Bashir regime in Sudan. Not toward the government of Iran as it pursues its nuclear weapons program. Obama refused to meddle in Iran’s affairs after the deadly crackdown against protestors following the Islamic Republic’s sham elections. But he was described as ‘seething’ with anger only moments after hearing about a routine decision by Jerusalem’s municipal government to authorize housing units in a well established Jewish neighborhood … It's tragic that Obama's failure to stand with our only Democratic ally in the Middle East is leading us all closer to war.” (6/7/10)

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=37352

“In hindsight, it will probably be obvious that the missteps of the Obama administration vis-a-vis Israel were critical catalysts to a war that today seems ever more likely to engulf the Middle East, and perhaps the world more generally. Assuming such an outcome is neither the intention of the president and his team, nor desired by them, American course corrections must be urgently taken … Unless and until President Obama gives comprehensive and tangible expression to America's commitment to Israel — in terms of reliable military assistance, unstinting diplomatic support, and wide latitude to act in its self-defense — the forces that have been unleashed by him and others will assuredly translate, in due course, to war.”  (6/7/10)

http://www.newsmax.com/FrankGaffney/Gaffney-Israel-Gaza-flotilla/2010/06/01/id/360686

“But even more important, why did Israel even have to resort to blockade? Because, blockade is Israel's fallback as the world systematically delegitimizes its traditional ways of defending itself -- forward and active defense … But, if none of these are permissible, what's left? Nothing. The whole point of this relentless international campaign is to deprive Israel of any legitimate form of self-defense … The world is tired of these troublesome Jews, six million -- that number again -- hard by the Mediterranean, refusing every invitation to national suicide. For which they are relentlessly demonized, ghettoized and constrained from defending themselves, even as the more committed anti-Zionists -- Iranian in particular -- openly prepare a more final solution.” (6/5/10)

Israel's response to the flotilla was an act of self-defense. The Western world's reaction has been shameful. Western countries once again fail to distinguish the arsonist from the firefighter.” (6/2/10)

“Has the president really thought this through? Here's a thought experiment: Imagine that all of the existing nuclear powers agreed that their weapons were more of a threat to "peace and security" than they were worth, and voluntarily destroyed them all. Would the world immediately become a safer place? No. It would become far more dangerous. The North Koreans would have lied about destroying their weapons, just as they lied repeatedly about building them for years. So one outcome might be that North Korea would instantly become a superpower. And surely the prospect of becoming nuclear-armed would be all the more enticing to the mullahs of Iran if they would have only North Korea in possession of similar weapons. Who would want to live in that world?”

“I weep as I witness outrageous verbal attacks on Israel. What makes these verbal assaults and distortions all the more painful is that they are being orchestrated by President Obama. For me, the situation today recalls what occurred in 70 A.D. when the Roman emperor Vespasian launched a military campaign against the Jewish nation and its ancient capital of Jerusalem ... Oh, you may say, that is a far-fetched analogy. Please hear me out … Members of Congress in both the House and Senate have made pitifully weak statements against Obama’s mistreatment of Israel, if they made any at all ... What bothers me most of all is the shameful silence and lack of action by community leaders — Jew and Christian. Where are they … To those who call me an alarmist, I reply that I’ll be happy to apologize if I am proven wrong. But those who stand silently by and watch the Obama administration abandon Israel, to whom will they apologize?” (4/12/10)

“Last week, Israel announced it had successfully completed testing the Iron Dome system, designed to protect civilians from short-range rockets fired by Hamas militants in Gaza and Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon … The military on Monday released three brief video clips of last week's test, each showing streaking rockets disappearing inside a white circular flash … Israel has had no system in place to guard against thousands of rockets that militants rained down on its southern and northern borders over the years. Millions of Israeli civilians are within rocket range, and the military stepped up its quest for a solution after the country's 2006 war against Hezbollah, when 4,000 rockets bombarded northern Israel … Iron Dome, developed at a cost of more than $200 million, uses cameras and radar to track incoming rockets and shoot them down within seconds of their launch, the Defense Ministry said. It is to be integrated into a multilayered defense umbrella designed to neutralize all missile threats – including long-range ballistic missiles from Iran that might be configured to carry nuclear warheads … ‘The cost of one day of warfare against the Hamas and Hezbollah, for example, will cover 10,000 interceptors.’” (1/12/10)

“The surge in Iraq should have taught us that more troops mean fewer troop deaths. Overwhelming force is the best protection any military can be given. By opting for fewer troops than requested, let’s hope that Obama has not made a decision that will cost the lives of soldiers in Iraq. And let’s hope that every decision he makes in the war doesn’t take months and end in politically triangulated half measures.” (12/1/09)
